Window Imports – Vic Hardware Thu, 24 Nov 2022 04:07:35 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Window Imports – Vic Hardware 32 32 Indictment of ape importers could disrupt US drug and vaccine research | Science Wed, 23 Nov 2022 21:27:57 +0000

The indictment of several members of an alleged international monkey smuggling ring is making waves in the US biomedical community. Last week, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) indicted two Cambodian wildlife officials and several members of a Hong Kong-based primate supply company for illegally exporting hundreds – and potentially more than 2,000 – macaques. endangered species, in the United States for research. The animals were reportedly wild-caught in Cambodia and falsely labeled as captive-bred.

The indictment, which includes multiple felony charges, will likely exacerbate the shortage of these monkeys, used in everything from drug safety testing to vaccine research, says Dave O’Connor, a virologist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, who studies infectious diseases in cynomolgus macaques. Yet, he says, the main priority should be stopping this illegal trade, both for science and the animals themselves. “These kind of unscrupulous actors give an already highly scrutinized industry a black eye.”

Animal rights groups are pushing to ban further imports of monkeys until more is known about their provenance. And some experts in the biomedical community suggest moving the breeding of this species of macaque to the United States and collecting more genetic and pedigree information on the monkeys that come from overseas. They also say labs should find ways to use fewer of these animals.

It’s unclear how many of the animals in question were used in the research, but one of the two companies that received them is the largest private supplier of monkeys to US research labs, Science has learned. The Inotiv company tells Science that “although we do not yet know if these allegations will be proven, Inotiv strongly condemns any unauthorized trade/import of endangered species. … To confirm that our selection processes are (and were) sound, we have plans in place to perform the necessary audits to ensure excellence and ensure transparency.

Cynomolgus macaques, also known as long-tailed macaques or cynos, are by far the most imported monkey species in the United States. Nearly 30,000 entered the country last year, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which regulates the import of non-human primates. Most cynos are used by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. (Rhesus macaques, another ape species widely used in American biomedical research, are used primarily by the academic community, which obtains them largely from national primate research centers.) Cynos are also the main species of monkeys imported into Europe for research purposes. They are usually bred in large facilities in Asia.

China was once the main supplier of cynos – exporting around 30,000 in 2018 – but the country has cut off its supply during the pandemic, which experts have attributed to the trade war with the United States and China’s desire to strengthen its own biomedical industry. Several countries, mainly in Southeast Asia, have stepped in to fill the void. Cambodia now exports the largest share of cynos – over 29,000 in 2020, the vast majority of which were shipped to the United States.

The pipeline is probably not sustainable. Although the actual number of cynos in the wild is unclear, the International Union for Conservation of Nature downgraded the monkeys’ status from vulnerable to endangered this year, citing growing demand from the research industry. as a factor that could encourage illegal trade.

The need for cynos has indeed increased, especially during the pandemic. The species was one of the main animal models used to test COVID-19 vaccines, and researchers are increasingly using monkeys to study Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other diseases. “There’s an exorbitant demand for these animals,” O’Connor says.

This may be what fuels the alleged illegal trade in Cambodia. According to the DOJ indictment, two high-ranking employees of Vanny Resources Holdings, a Hong Kong-based company that breeds monkeys for research, paid millions to black market vendors and Cambodian officials to wildlife to capture thousands of cynos in national parks and other protected areas. of Cambodia, and to falsify their papers to indicate that the animals had been bred in captivity.

Nearly 1,500 of these “bleached” cynos arrived in the United States from 2018 to 2020, according to the indictment, with potentially hundreds more in 2021. They appear to have ended up in southern facilities Florida and South Texas. The companies running the facilities aren’t named in the indictment, but in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last week, Inotiv disclosed that its main supplier of non-human primates was the target of the DOJ’s investigation, stating that the company gets most of its monkeys from Vanny.

Last year, Inotiv bought leading research animal supplier Envigo (recently criticized for a series of animal welfare violations at one of its beagle breeding facilities), making it the most world’s largest supplier of non-human primates for research. The company currently houses more than 9,000 monkeys – the vast majority of cynos – which it sells to private and university labs.

If monkeys are to be used in research in the United States, it is the responsibility to ensure that they are well cared for…and purchased responsibly.

  • Eric Kleiman
  • Animal Welfare Institute

Cindy Buckmaster, a spokeswoman for Americans for Medical Progress, which advocates the use of animals in scientific studies, says there is little there is for companies like Inotiv — or the labs they sell to — to verify the origin of the animals they receive. “We have to take documentation at face value,” she says. “Everything else is out of our control.”

Yet she calls the alleged illegal importation of cynos “horrible” for animals and a violation of the trust the scientific community and the public have in animal research. She says wild-caught monkeys carry viruses that could infect other animals they are housed with or humans. And they’re prone to stress just because they’re meeting people for the first time, which can lead to “very different data.”

Last week, animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals called on the CDC to suspend all exports of non-human primates from Cambodia. On Monday, he asked the US National Institutes of Health “to determine the precise origin of each [cyno] imported from Cambodia since 2017 and currently in publicly funded laboratories.

In a statement released last week, Cambodia’s agriculture ministry said it was “surprised and saddened” by the indictment and pledged to enforce all laws governing international trade in animals. He also denied that any of his exported monkeys had been taken from the wild.

“If that’s the supply side reaction, then we think there needs to be much tighter controls on the demand side,” says Eric Kleiman, a research fellow at the Animal Welfare Institute, an advocacy group animals who closely followed the issue. “If monkeys are to be used in research in the United States, it is the responsibility to ensure that they are well cared for…and purchased responsibly.”

Sarah Kite, co-founder of Action for Primates, a UK-based advocacy organization, agrees. She notes that the European Union is set to pass legislation this month that will ban the import of all wild-caught animals and their offspring, and says the United States should follow suit. “It’s the only way to make sure they don’t catch wild animals,” she says. “The research community must be held accountable for what happens to this species.”

O’Connor suggests a solution: ensure that all animals bred in captivity have complete pedigree records, which could be kept in a global registry. He also suggests genotyping each monkey used in a research study to better trace their origins.

The major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies contacted by Science either declined to comment on the question or did not respond.

“I think [the indictment] will narrow the pipeline even more,” says an American industrial and academic ape research consultant who has worked in the field for decades but asked not to be named for fear of damaging relationships with his clients. The American biomedical community should invest in breeding these animals domestically, he says. “We have to migrate away from shipping an animal to the other side of the world, where we can’t control where it comes from.”

But the community also needs to focus more on reducing the number of monkeys they use, he says. This could be accomplished by designing studies that require fewer animals and working with regulators to require fewer of those animals for research such as drug safety studies. “It’s easier, faster and cheaper than building a bigger pipeline.”

No prospect of recession in India, economy expected to grow 6-7% in next fiscal year: Rajiv Kumar Mon, 21 Nov 2022 06:18:51 +0000

India will continue to grow by 6-7% in the next financial year 2023-24, even though the economy could be affected by uncertain global conditions, former Niti Aayog vice-president Rajiv Kumar has told the newspaper. amid growing fears that the world is slipping into a recession. Kumar further said that there is a synchronized slowdown in the United States, Europe, Japan and also China and that this may plunge the global economy into a recession in the coming months.

“Fortunately, there is no such prospect of recession in India because although our growth may be negatively affected by global conditions, we will still manage to grow at 6-7% in 2023-24,” he said. he told PTI in an interview. . On October 6, the World Bank forecast a growth rate of 6.5% for the Indian economy for 2022-23, down one percentage point from its June 2022 projections, citing deteriorating l international environment, while the IMF predicted a growth rate of 6.8% in 2022 against 8.7% in 2021 for India.

IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said the global economy was moving from a world of relative predictability to one of greater uncertainty. Responding to a question about high inflation, Kumar said retail inflation is likely to be in the 6-7% range for some time to come. “After that, my guess is it should start to peak and then come back down,” he said. Kumar added that much depends on global oil prices as they may continue to rise due to the continuing conflict in Ukraine. “But otherwise, the domestic engines of inflation will cool down,” he noted.

Indicating an easing of the price situation, retail price inflation moderated to 6.7% in October, while the wholesale price index fell to its lowest level in 19 months, mainly in due to moderate food prices. The central bank has a mandate to keep inflation at 4% with 2% upside and downside bands. Asked about the impact of the weakening Indian Rupee on the common man, former VP Niti Aayog said the common Indian does not use many imported goods or services in his shopping basket. consumption. According to Kumar, the rupee which is close to its real value is much better for the economy than the appreciated rupee and the depreciated rupee does not pose much downside risk.

The Rupee depreciated 6 paise to close at 81.74 against the US Dollar on Friday. Regarding India’s growing trade deficit, Kumar said that with negative export growth in October, it is clear that the country needs a real policy focus on how to increase its exports of goods and services. “We now need to formulate state-specific export promotion policies. Because having one export promotion policy for the whole country does not make sense,” he said. Elaborating further, he said that Punjab is a dual landlocked state and Tamil Nadu is a coastal state, and has centuries of trading experience. “So having the same policies of these two states, for example, is irrelevant,” he pointed out.

India’s exports entered negative territory after a gap of around two years, falling sharply by 16.65% to $29.78 billion in October, mainly due to slowing global demand, even then the trade deficit widened to $26.91 billion. Imports in the month under review increased by around 6% to USD 56.69 billion due to increased inbound shipments of crude oil and some raw materials such as cotton, fertilizers and machinery.

Responding to a question about some states moving to the old pension system (OPS), Kumar said, “It’s a step backwards. and I don’t think it should be taken. He felt that it is advocated by some opposition parties due to populist measures. “I think the Indian economy, the Indian working class, the Indian middle class are maturing and can manage their own pension funds and take advantage of the new pension scheme, which has a lot more choice than the old pension scheme,” Kumar said. Punjab’s cabinet on Friday approved the reinstatement of the old pension scheme, which was discontinued in 2004.

Government set to import 10 million bags of GMO maize Fri, 18 Nov 2022 03:31:07 +0000

The government will soon allow a six-month duty-free import of GMO and non-GMO maize aimed at bringing in 10 million bags.

Cabinet Secretary for Commerce and Industry, Moses Kuria, said in a gazette notice that the government intends to allow maize to ensure Kenya’s food security.

Early last month, the government lifted a decade-long import ban on outdoor cultivation and the import of GMO food crops and animal feed.

The decision was taken as part of measures to deal with the long-term effects of climate change.

Farmers’ organizations have predicted that the maize harvest this season could be significantly low due to high fertilizer prices earlier this year which negatively affected the area under maize cultivation as well as the high consumption of green maize in the region. harvest this year.

To make up for the expected shortfall in available corn stocks, the government zero-rates corn imports.

Under the six-month franchise window, importers will be free to ship GMO or non-GMO corn.

It comes amid critics’ concerns about food safety, the impact of GMOs on farmer-run systems and the lack of regulations to govern the cultivation of GMOs.

In Africa, GMOs are grown commercially in eight countries, namely South Africa, Sudan, Malawi, Nigeria, Eswatini, Kenya, Ethiopia and Ghana.

How to Remove Microsoft Account from Windows 11 Tue, 15 Nov 2022 18:07:07 +0000

With the Windows 8 makeover in 2012, the software giant made it quite difficult to use the desktop system without a Microsoft account. The same is true in Windows 11. You need to sign in with a Microsoft account to unlock the full potential of your PC. But for privacy and other reasons, you can easily remove Microsoft account from Windows 11 and continue your work in local account.

You may not want to sync important files and media with OneDrive or share location with Microsoft on Windows 11. You can follow the steps below to remove your Microsoft account from Windows 11.

Should you delete your Microsoft account from Windows 11

First, we don’t recommend completely removing a Microsoft account from a Windows 11 PC. It’s an essential part of the Windows 11 experience. An active Microsoft account allows you to download apps and games from the Microsoft Store , upload media and documents to OneDrive, and sync your settings across all Windows devices.

However, if you don’t want to share your data with Microsoft, you can remove your Microsoft account from Windows 11. It’s also a good idea when you give your laptop to a friend for a few days. You can block the person from viewing your private OneDrive files and other apps on your computer. Whatever the reason, here are the ways to remove Microsoft account from Windows 11.

Create a local account on Windows 11

Before removing a Microsoft account from Windows 11, you must first add a local account on your PC. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Press Windows key + I to open the Settings app.

2nd step: Select “Accounts” from the left sidebar and click “Other users” from the right pane.

Step 3: Select “Add Account”.

Step 4: Click “I don’t have this person’s login information”.

Step 5: Select “Add a user without a Microsoft account”.

Step 6: Enter username and password and press Next to complete the setup.

To delete your Microsoft account, you must grant administrative privileges to the local account. Windows 11 creates a new local account with standard permissions. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open Accounts in Windows 11 Settings (refer to the steps above).

2nd step: Select “Other users”.

Step 3: Click the down arrow next to your local account.

Step 4: Select “Change account type”.

Step 5: Expand the Account Type menu and select Administrator.

Sign out of your current Microsoft account and sign back in using your local account.

Delete your Microsoft account from Windows 11

After setting up a local account with administrator privileges, you can remove all connected Microsoft accounts from your Windows 11 PC. Here’s how.

Step 1: Launch the Windows 11 Settings menu by pressing Windows Key + I.

2nd step: Check your local account in the upper left corner.

Step 3: Go to Accounts and select Other users.

Step 4: Check your connected Microsoft account.

Step 5: Expand it and select Delete.

Deleting the account will remove all data from this PC, including desktop items, downloads, photos, music, and other files. Be sure to back up important files to OneDrive or Google Drive.

Step 6: Select “Delete account and data” to confirm your decision.

Your Microsoft account will no longer appear on the sign-in screen. You will only see your local account.

Delete your Microsoft account using Control Center

While Microsoft has done a decent job of importing Control Center options into Windows 11’s redesigned Settings menu, some still prefer the former for making changes to their PCs. If you’re one of them, read on to learn how to delete a Microsoft account using Control Center.

Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Control Center.

2nd step: Press Enter to open the application.

Step 3: Select “User Accounts”.

Step 4: Select “Delete user accounts”.

Step 5: Click on your Microsoft account.

Step 6: Select “Delete Account”.

Windows provides an option to keep your files local. The system can automatically save the contents of your desktop and Documents, Favorites, Music, Pictures, and Videos folders to a new folder on your desktop.

Stay local and private

Your local account on Windows 11 has several restrictions without any presence of your Microsoft account. Since you cannot download apps from the Microsoft Store, you must install apps from the web. You will also have to rely on web applications to upload files and create documents. Make sure you understand the limits of a local account before deleting your Microsoft account from Windows 11.

Premier League clubs united in belief that post-Brexit signing system is bad for business Sun, 13 Nov 2022 05:50:27 +0000

Rarely do the 20 Premier League clubs come together and find common ground. Too much self-interest, a need to take care of number one.

When it comes to the impact Brexit is feeling, however, there is a rare united front.

Premier League clubs are opposing the rules they have been asked to follow since the UK officially left the European Union (EU) on December 31, 2020 and are now demanding a change.

The common consensus among top-flight clubs is that the current rules inhibit, restrict and drive up prize money. This is, in short, bad news for business.

The Football Association has been informed. As previously reported by Athleticism last month, chief executive Mark Bullingham attended a Premier League shareholders’ meeting in September and heard clubs’ concerns. The plea was for the rules to be relaxed, allowing more leeway for the recruitment of foreign players in this post-Brexit era.

The FA have been willing to listen but still have their own interests to protect. Limiting the number of players recruited from abroad will, in theory, benefit the development of English talent for the national team. Fewer foreign imports means more opportunities. Or so goes the plan.

The source of irritation is the Board of Trustees (GBE) approval system, originally agreed by the FA, Premier League and EFL two years ago. This points-based system has been designed to suit all parties, allowing English clubs to continue to recruit the best players from around the world.

“The system meets the common goals of the Premier League and the FA, allowing access to the best players and future talents of the clubs, as well as the protection of English teams, by guaranteeing opportunities for local players,” said one. common statement during design.

All said they were happy with the arrangement at the time, but there was a telling comment added by Premier League chief executive Richard Masters. “After the January transfer window (in 2021), we look forward to reviewing the deal with the FA,” he said.

And here we are. The 20 Premier League clubs are unanimous in their calls for a relaxation of the rules, lowering the entry requirements needed to sign foreign players. This, they say, would dilute the disadvantages they find in the transfer market, with English clubs no longer forced to pay a premium for those who are eligible.

The GBE debate is not expected to be resolved until next summer, but the thirst for change is growing.

Like so many arguments on British shores in recent years, this one all dates back to the referendum in which 51.9% of the British electorate voted to leave the EU in 2016. Freedom of movement ceased once the official withdrawal followed in the final hours of 2020 and football could not avoid the ripples.

Players who qualified for the EU could no longer join British clubs without thinking. A GBE would be required, much like work permits which were required for those signed from outside of Europe.

The details and requirements of a GBE have been covered at length on these pages before, but put into practice the impact has been undeniable. Analytics FC, the football strategy and analysis specialists, worked with immigration law firm Fragomen to produce an independent study called Brexitball, published this week, and among their findings was a reduction 92% of the player market before and after Brexit.

It is estimated that 60,000 professional footballers were eligible to play football in the UK before Brexit, but overnight that figure dropped. Predictions suggest fewer than 5,000 players would likely have automatically won a GBE this summer had they been targeted by UK clubs.

It’s worth pointing out that the vast majority of these now ineligible players would have been of no interest to English clubs, especially those in the Premier League. Yet, the smaller the pool of available players, the higher the costs involved in recruiting them.

This is at least the concern of the 20 Premier League clubs, which can only point to financial intangibles for the moment. The reality is that overseas recruitment has seen little to no change in the four transfer windows in English football’s top flight.

Big deals, like Erling Haaland, Antony and Darwin Nunez, have continued this summer and will do so again in upcoming transfer windows. Premier League clubs have never enjoyed greater financial dominance over their European counterparts and it shows. Foreign spending significantly outpaced domestic spending, continuing a long-standing trend.

Erling Haaland joined Manchester City this summer for £51.25m (€60m) (Photo: Lynne Cameron – Manchester City/Manchester City FC via Getty Images)

Where the change has been seen, however, is among young foreign players. In the 2020 summer window, the last before Brexit, Analytics FC found that English clubs had six of the top 10 transfers for players aged 18 or under. No longer able to sign 16- or 17-year-olds due to FIFA rules that prohibit such deals, that number fell to three in 2021.

It grew to four in the summer window that just ended, but three of them were domestic deals, involving Carney Chukwuemeka (Aston Villa to Chelsea), Romeo Lavia and Juan Larios (both from Manchester City to Southampton) .

The Premier League’s share of the Under-21 market has instead increased in the post-Brexit summers. Six of the top 10 deals were made by English clubs, up from just two in 2019-20. Therein lies a long-term concern for Premier League clubs if they have to wait until a player turns 18 before a transfer can be completed. Valuations then exploded thanks to progress with clubs on the continent, with fewer bargains to be found.

“If you look at the 18-year-old market, before Brexit the Premier League had seven of the top eight fees paid for 18-year-olds,” says Andy Watson, one of Brexitball’s co-authors.

“This is no longer the case for young foreigners who come to the country. There have been three highly publicized 18-year-old domestic transfers this summer, but there isn’t the same dominance in this area.

“Premier League clubs are struggling to be able to buy young players, but that is changing very quickly, where Under-21 transfers are dominated. Premier League clubs are always able to attract high quality young players.

But at a cost.

The FA’s long-standing aims of a GBE system were to secure greater opportunities for England players, but the past two years have so far brought mixed results on this front. Although 273 English players played in the Premier League in 2021-22, compared to 206 in 2018-19, the minutes played by these players fell last season. According to Analytics FC, that went from 277,845 minutes in 2020-21 to 253,258 last season.

The corresponding figures for the Championship are at least more encouraging for the FA. Minutes played by England players last season stood at 604,854, down from 554,329 in the last full season before Brexit.

“The number of minutes played by English players in the Premier League has not increased,” says Watson. “He has in the Championship. The interesting thing we discussed with this was quality versus quantity.

“You may find over time that English players get more minutes, but it’s still hard to say whether the higher quality of players coming in improves this group of English players. It’s a very small sample so far. present, so we can’t draw any clear conclusions yet, but early indications are that there hasn’t been an increase in minutes played by British players in the Premier League.

In the championship, there has undoubtedly been a greater impact than in the Premier League. Although clubs like Burnley, Norwich City and Hull City ensured that nine of last summer’s 10 biggest deals went to overseas clubs, the number of Band One imports (Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1) has decreased significantly since 2019-20.

“The Premier League are still very dominant in groups one and two,” Watson said. “They’re always going to get the crème de la crème. This leaves the Championship with fewer players qualifying.

If there is a winner in the post-Brexit years, it may be the Scottish Premiership. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) imposed slightly different rules to those south of the border, allowing more overseas players to qualify. Any player unable to obtain the 15 points needed to qualify can go before an Exceptions Panel, where in England the defaulting player must always obtain at least 10 points for their case to be heard.

Analytics FC research indicates that 16% of all incoming transfers and loans made by Scottish clubs in the summer of 2022 could not have been made in England. These included Antonio Colak (PAOK to Rangers), Bojan Miovski (MTK to Aberdeen) and Kye Rowles (Central Coast Mariners to Hearts). The percentage of inbound transfers to Scotland that do not reach the 15 GBE point mark is rising, with recruitment services now targeting signings from leagues such as Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Norway.

“If you think the Championship and the SPL are relatively equal in terms of quality and the players they attract as clubs, having that different interpretation on the exceptions panel makes a big difference,” adds Watson. “I’m sure Championship recruiting departments, especially those who don’t receive parachute payments, would love to have more reach.”

The GBE work permit system has always been seen as a work in progress, something to be refined and evolved. This has already included players under the age of 21 wanted by English clubs allowed to stand on a panel of exceptions, although this still does not provide any guarantee of a GBE.

The Premier League now want further changes which they say will indirectly help the EFL at a time when talks continue over a new deal which will lead to increased funding for the top flight to the 72 clubs below. The argument has been made that post-Brexit legislation has meant more money has left the English game, never to be seen again. Record fees have instead been spent buying players from countries like Portugal and the Netherlands.

Next month will mark the second anniversary of the announcement of the GBE program and its imperfections are now being pointed out by those who feel its impact the most.

Manage VMs with Azure Automation State Configuration Thu, 10 Nov 2022 19:18:45 +0000

PowerShell Desired State Configuration is a programmatic way to declare in advance how a user wants to configure a resource, such as a virtual machine. Used correctly, DSC reduces configuration drift, which is the emergence of unnoticed or untracked configuration changes over time.

With DSC, the administrator declares the “what” and the DSC tool takes care of the “how”. Azure Automation State Configuration (AASC), a configuration management tool, is essentially Microsoft’s take on DSC. Other popular DSC systems include Terraform, Chef, and Puppet.

AASC allows IT administrators to frequently reassess servers managed by AASC, perform initial configuration, and reconfigure resources to deal with configuration drift. AASC can run on most versions of Windows, on physical and virtual servers, on-premises and in the cloud. It also supports other cloud environments, such as AWS.

Built on PowerShell DSC, AASC allows IT teams to write, manage, and compile DSC configurations for nodes. It also imports DSC resources and assigns configurations to target nodes.

AASC can work with Linux-based machines, but it requires additional management and configuration compared to Windows environments, where the DSC plug-in automatically installs when a DSC configuration is attached.

Implementing AASC involves several steps, depending on what the administrator is trying to accomplish:

  1. Create a discrete resource group. It is recommended to keep resources with the same lifecycle together.
  2. Create an automation user account in Azure.
  3. Generate and upload the Azure DSC configuration file.
  4. Compile the file into a machine-deployable configuration.
  5. Attach the configuration to a server and deploy it to the desired machines.

This tutorial uses PowerShell rather than the Azure portal and assumes the reader is already connected to Azure in the PowerShell console.

Step 1. Create a new resource group

Create the resource group using New-AzResourceGroup ordered.

Step 2. Create Automation User

Automatic state configuration requires an automation user to manage AASC. Create an automation user with the following PowerShell command, overriding values as needed.

New-AzAutomationAccount -Location "EastUS" -ResourceGroupName "TT_Automation" -Name "automationUser"
The screenshot shows that the automation user has been created.

Step 3. Create the automation file

The automation file contains the desired state of a group of virtual machines.

For a production environment, it takes some forethought to design and develop the Azure DSC source file. This file contains the desired state for a group of virtual machines. For example, an administrator may want all Internet Information Services (IIS) servers to have an always-accurate baseline configuration. This example uses AASC to install an IIS server on a Windows machine.

Although creating source code files is beyond the scope of this article, an example from Microsoft is shown below. Its purpose is to ensure that IIS is installed.

configuration IISInstall
    node "localhost"
        WindowsFeature IIS
            Ensure = "Present"
            Name = "Web-Server"

Copy the text into the editor and save it with an appropriate name, ending with the .ps1 file extension. The file name and the configuration name must be the same.

Step 4. Upload configuration file to Azure

The next step is to upload the file to Azure. This process, also called publishing, makes the configuration available in Azure.

To upload the file, use the following PowerShell command.

Import-AzAutomationDscConfiguration -SourcePath "./iisInstall.ps1" -ResourceGroupName "TT_Automation" -AutomationAccountName "automationUser" -Published
The screenshot shows that the file has been uploaded to Azure.

This step simply publishes the configuration to Azure – it is not assigned to anything yet and will have no immediate effect. It is possible to publish several configurations.

The next step is to compile the code. Azure verifies that everything is as expected, then builds the package and all necessary dependencies to achieve the desired state.

Start-AzAutomationDscCompilationJob -ResourceGroupName "TT_Automation" -ConfigurationName "iisInstall" -AutomationAccountName "automationUser"
The screenshot shows that the code has been compiled.

Depending on several variables, compiling the automation configuration can take several minutes. Use the command Get-AzAutomationDscCompilationJob to get status. For all available configurations, use the command Get-AzAutomationDscNodeConfiguration.

Step 5. Save the configuration to a virtual machine

Next, deploy the prepared configuration to a virtual machine using the following code.

Register-AzAutomationDscNode -AzureVMName "test5" -ResourceGroupName "TT_Automation" -AutomationAccountName "automationUser" -NodeConfigurationName install.localhost -ConfigurationMode ApplyAndAutocorrect

This action can be repeated – and those feeling more adventurous can create a script for automatic node registration, if needed. Applying configurations outside of the resource group requires modified Azure Resource Manager templates. Deploying outside the resource group will fail and result in an automation account error message.

The results of the registration process can be viewed on the portal.

The screenshot shows the results of the registration process and the status of the configuration.

Alternatively, as IIS has been installed, connect to the IP in a browser to bring up the default IIS page.

The screenshot shows the default Windows Server Internet Services page.

Russia’s Return to Grains Deal Is a Sign of Turkey’s Growing Influence Tue, 08 Nov 2022 11:55:46 +0000 Having refused to join Western sanctions against Russia, Turkey has become the only remaining window to Europe for Russian businesses and individuals.

After Moscow pulled out of the Ukrainian grain deal, it took Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan just two days for Russia to revert to the deal and drop the idea of blocking grain export Ukrainians. The speed of this reversal shows how much Ankara’s influence over Moscow has grown over the past eight months, dramatically shifting the balance of relations in favor of Turkey.

Moscow initially agreed to unblock Ukrainian ports to allow the export of grain in the summer, when Russia seemed to have the advantage in the war. The Kremlin has been invited to sign the agreement by Turkey, major importers of Russian and Ukrainian grain in the Middle East, and the UN.

It was also in Russia’s interest to accept the deal. The simultaneous easing of sanctions to allow grain and fertilizer exports from Russia was not formally billed as part of the deal, but was agreed with the US and EU.

The grain deal also provided the Kremlin with a valuable additional lever of influence over the West. Russian President Vladimir Putin began hinting that Russia could pull out of the deal in September, shortly after the successful launch of the Ukrainian military’s counteroffensive.

The Kremlin’s official reason for criticizing the deal was that Ukrainian grain was supposed to be largely sent to Europe, rather than to the poorer countries where it was most needed, although the destination of the Ukrainian grain did not matter. part of the terms of the agreement.

In reality, Putin was irritated that despite the lack of formal sanctions, European companies had not resumed business as usual with their Russian counterparts. Banks continued to delay transactions or simply refused to work with Russian entities; several shipments of fertilizers remained stuck in Baltic ports; and foreign buyers sought alternatives to Russian suppliers.

Russia found an excuse to use the grain deal as leverage over the West on October 29, following an attack on the Crimean port of Sevastopol. The Russian military said Ukraine launched a drone attack from a civilian ship sailing in the designated corridor for grain shipments and ships escorting grain shipments were damaged in the attack. Moscow called it a terrorist attack and suspended its participation in the deal.

In return for returning to the deal, Putin demanded written security guarantees for military and civilian vessels in the grain corridor. There were also non-public demands, such as other banks restoring their relationship with the state-owned Rosselkhozbank (Russian Agricultural Bank). The bank had previously played no significant role in the international grain and fertilizer trade, but the Kremlin reportedly decided to make it a one-stop shop for agricultural export payments, protecting it from sanctions in the same way as it protected Gazprombank by funneling payments for gas exports there.

Within days of Russia’s withdrawal from the deal, Erdogan announced that the grain could be exported without Russia’s involvement and spoke to Putin on the phone, after which Moscow suddenly backtracked. and reneged on the deal.

Moreover, the Russian President promised that “in any case” Russia would not prevent the export of Ukrainian grain to Turkey. In other words, even if Russia pulls out of the deal again, it will still be possible to ship Ukrainian grain out of Black Sea ports. There was much talk in diplomatic circles that Ankara had “leaned heavily” on Moscow, reflecting the Kremlin’s new weakness.

At the beginning of this year, Turkey needed its partnership with Russia more than Russia. Russians made up the bulk of tourists vacationing in Turkish resorts (about 4 million in the first nine months of this year), and Turkish diplomats were pleading with Moscow to lift sanctions on Turkish agricultural products. It was Russia that laid the TurkStream gas pipeline to Turkey along the bed of the Black Sea; The Russian atomic agency Rosatom is building a nuclear power plant (Akkuyu) for Turkey; and Moscow is Ankara’s key partner in the Caucasus, Syria and Libya.

At the time, Russia could afford to be choosy: in 2021, Turkey was not even among Russia’s top ten foreign trading partners (it was in eleventh place). All that changed with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Trade turnover between Russia and Turkey doubled in the first nine months of this year compared to the previous year to reach 47 billion dollars, and at the end of the third quarter of this year, Turkey may well have become one of Russia’s top three trading partners, behind only China and Belarus – and winning over Germany.

Tech goods have seen particularly stratospheric growth: Russia now depends on Turkey for equipment maintenance and other manufacturing processes, as technology imports to Russia from the rest of the world, including China , decreased significantly. Turkey appears to have become a transshipment hub for tech goods shipments from Europe. Italy, for example, has significantly increased its supply of goods to Turkey, while Turkish exports to Russia have increased in similar proportions. Having refused to join Western sanctions against Russia, Turkey has become the only remaining window to Europe for Russian businesses and individuals.

Meanwhile, Turkstream is now the only route for Russian gas to Europe fully controlled by Moscow, following damage to two Nord Stream pipelines from recent explosions. Today, Moscow and Ankara started discussing the creation of a gas hub in Turkey.

Russian propaganda presents the development of cooperation with Turkey as proof that Russia is not isolated on the international scene. But it also has its downside. The Kremlin can no longer ignore Erdogan’s own foreign policy ambitions and interests. Russian companies will have to give their Turkish partners deep discounts to ensure they don’t close the last window in the European market.

There will also be a price to pay at home. Turkey has never been popular among Russia’s ultra-patriots, and now they are outraged by their country’s return to the grain deal, which they see as a sign of weakness.

Western sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the severing of relations with the West have seen Russia’s cooperation with several non-Western states expand dramatically. Compared to the previous five years, Russia’s average monthly trade volumes this year have quadrupled with India, doubled with Turkey and increased by more than 60% with China. However, the possible loss of these partners would not only deprive Moscow of a considerable part of its income in hard currencies, but would also accelerate the rate at which the Russian economy lags behind technologically, due to the lack of imported equipment and components. .

The Kremlin still has various tools to pressure the West in its arsenal, including nuclear blackmail, but Russian demand for imports of various goods and technologies is increasing day by day. As a result, Moscow will increasingly have to consider its few remaining partners, take their interests into account when defining policies, including with regard to Ukraine, and pay a domestic political price, as well as a financial cost. The message from these partners to Putin is clear and clear: now “the time is not for war”, and the conflict with Kyiv has already lasted too long.

How to Customize UI Windows in WoW: Shadowlands Thu, 27 Oct 2022 12:23:45 +0000

World of Warcraft (more commonly abbreviated as WoW) has seen many acclaimed expansions, including Shadowlands. The eighth expansion pack also introduced many gameplay tweaks and changes, often for the better, to make WoW as user-friendly as possible. One of these additions is the introduction of customizable UI and HUD elements.

This way, players have complete control over their gaming experience. Here’s how.

The inclusion of modifiable UI in WoW Shadowlands adheres to the MMORPG’s mantra of player freedom

Follow the steps below to modify the HUD as you see fit:

  • Press Esc on your keyboard to bring up the menu.
  • Now tap on edit mode to bring up the UI editor.
  • This brings up two key elements: a contextual options screen to toggle on-screen elements, and the remaining editable UI elements that can be selected and changed as needed. The first lists all the items that users can pin to the screen.
  • To modify the user interface, select the element that needs to be customized.
  • This grants options to scale and resize it.

Let’s take the action bar as an example. It is one of the most used items in WoW because it lists player skills in an easily accessible way. Follow these steps:

  • Select the action bar after entering edit mode.
  • This highlights it in yellow and brings up a second pop-up window with options relating to said HUD element (i.e. the action bar).
  • In the case of the Action Bar, this brings up a number of items to edit.
  • Modify the required options and close the second window. Players can also undo changes or reset them to default.

They are the following:

  • Orientation: Choose between a horizontal or vertical action bar
  • Number of rows: change the action bar from a single row to a box (up to 4×3)
  • # of icons: adjust the number of icons listed (between 6 and 12)
  • Icon size: This increases the size of the icons in the action bar, also increasing the size of the UI.
  • Icon Fill: Action Bar Kerning
  • Hide bar art: allows you to remove graphic art on the action bar
  • Hide the scroll bar: removes the arrows that allow the movement of the action bar

Can layouts be saved between characters?

Distant hills and tumultuous valleys. Calm mists and warm skies. Inhale… and relax.

Yes, they can. Not only that, but WoW also allows these UI layouts to be imported between friends and guilds. Here’s how:

  • Press Esc and open edit mode
  • Select the drop-down menu that reveals options for importing and sharing the new layout
  • New Layout: Allows players to create different layout loadouts
  • Import: Allows you to import layouts from other users. This brings up the data to be pasted in a notepad format, this is how it is imported
  • Share: allows you to share your custom layout with others

Users can also switch between the new UI or the classic UI using the editor.

World of Warcraft is developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment and is exclusively available on PC. The latest update is Wrath of the Lich King Classic. On the other hand, players are eagerly awaiting the release of Dragonflight, coming on November 28, 2022.
