The new 8BitDo Ultimate controller is coming in October

8BitDo is jumping into the professional controller market with the release of the 8BitDo Ultimate Controller, which is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and begins shipping on October 28. 8BitDo’s older controllers, such as the SN30 Pro and Pro 2, offer a wide range of compatibility options thanks to their Bluetooth connectivity, but the Ultimate Controller will be available in three different configurations: Bluetooth ($69.99 ), 2.4Ghz ($49.99) or wired ($34.99) – depending on your preferred console and method of connectivity.

The Bluetooth model will also come with a 2.4GHz wireless adapter, and along with the wired model, it’s compatible with Nintendo Switch, Windows, Android, and iOS devices. The exclusive 2.4 Ghz model will not be compatible with the Switch, but retains all other previous connectivity options.

The controller will be available in black, white, and pink colorways.

Previous 8BitDo controllers iterated on classic Sega and Nintendo designs, but the Ultimate controller more closely resembles the contemporary models you’d associate with a PlayStation or Xbox, with asymmetrical analog sticks and a pair of rear paddles for additional inputs. However, the Ultimate Controller will offer a suite of premium features that you’d typically find on a controller that costs twice as much. As well as being offered in black, white and pink, the Ultimate Controller’s wireless models come with their own charging station.

The charging station also serves as an access point for the 2.4 Ghz adapter.

However, perhaps the coolest new feature that comes with the new Ultimate controller is 8BitDo’s new controller software suite, which will let you remap and tune your controls across PC, Android, and iOS devices. You will be able to save your preferences in up to three separate profiles, stored independently on the controller hardware.

The controller software is accessible on PCs and mobile devices.

We’re still waiting to get our hands on this controller, but based on its features, the Ultimate Controller looks set to serve as a more capable alternative to the official Switch Pro controller and a worthy successor to the 8BitDo Pro 2.
